Janvrin's tomb

In the early part of the 18th century Captain Phillepe Janvrin was master of the Esther, and he and his crew mainly traded between France and Jersey, but when the plague became epidemic in France no ship was allowed to land in Jersey, so the Esther had to stay in Belcroute Bay, on the second day of quaririne Phillipe died, and was not allowed to be buried on Jersey, but his wife begged the Royal court to allow him to be buried on Le Guaedien, just inside Portlet bay,He had to rowed from n the Esther to the Islet, and they had to dig the grave and bur him, while the service had to be  performed from the clifs above, and later his Wife had this tower built over his grave as a memorial, with a plaque there, and it is said that every week for as long as she was able she climbed down the clif to put floweers on gis grave
